The Spring Play

Thank you for coming to the play! We had a great time getting ready for the show and performing it. I hope you enjoyed it.

If you have time, I would greatly appreciate some pictures. You can send them to me at kgulinoperez@gmail.com . Thank you!

May 23- T, U, V

Dear Parents,

The last two weeks have been a lot of fun. We have started learning about water and the different ways we use it and can find it.

We are getting close to the end of our alphabet and it is very exciting to see how well the kids know and how easy it is for them to think of different words they know that begin with each letter.

T is for turtles!

U

U is for umbrellas!

V

V is for volcanoes...

...and vampires!

We especially had fun learning about volcanoes for the letter V. We had a little science experiment, where we combined baking soda and vinegar to make our volcano erupt.

I introduced the children to The Count from Sesame Street to help them learn about vampires. The series of the Count is about a vampire that likes to count things.

Here are the two we have watched so far. I recommend watching them and other Count videos.

May 3

Dear Parents,

It was great seeing and talking to you at the Parent-Teacher conferences last week.

We have been working really hard on our play, "The Hungry Caterpillar." The kids love this story from when we read and did our project on it before.

It will be on Thursday, May 16th. I hope to see you there!

Spring Fieldtrips

We have had a lot of fun this spring on our field trips. First, we went to a chess tournament here in Maltepe. The kids got to practice their chess skills and it was a lot of fun competing with kids from other skills.

Then we went to the Cam Ocaği Glass Blowing Factory in Beykoz.  We learned about glass blowing and making. We even got to see how they make it live!

Nasuh having a great time at the tournament.

Burak and Yunus Emre, excited to get to the chess tournament.

Eslem and her chess medal.

Here are some pictures of the kids having fun at the glass factory.

Storybots and Ring Card Phonics for the ABCs

Dear Parents,

As you know we have been studying the alphabet for quite some time. Aside from the Pancake Manor ABCs and the Super Simple Phonics' ABC Chant, we also enjoy watching videos from the Storybots collection on Youtube. The Storybots are a robot-themed learning program that is very fun to watch and practice the ABCs and phonics.

Aside from the ABCs and phonics, they also have some classic nursery rhymes, all set to a robot theme, which is very fun for the children. One of the children's favorites is the "Jumping on the Bed" song.

Ring Card Phonics are a great to practice phonetic sounds as well and expand our vocabulary of the words that start with that letter and sound.

I've put some of our favorites here. If you click on the links it will open them in a new window and then you can also see the other videos in that channel and collection.

Here is an example of a Storybots letter song:

Please remember that we have been working on the ABCs for a while, so it's always great to review old letters together!
